My First Ride
When the car first arrived and was off the truck, I had my first real look at the car. It was smaller than I remembered when I was researching the model and saw it at a dealership. I had also only seen it white in photographs. I was very pleased with the color and looking the car over, there wasn't a scratch or ding on it. The inside was just as spotless at the outside. Someone had taken good care of this vehicle.
The doors, being longer due to the coupe styling, were heavy and solid. I didn't expect them to be so heavy -- real metal here folks -- so I was taken aback when the doors required a bit more than a feather's touch to open them. The bucket seats were comfortable and adjustable in more ways than I'd ever seen in a power seat. At first glance, the dash seemed simple and geared towards the driver. On closer inspection, the dash contained more features than I've ever seen.
Starting up the engine, which turned over smoothly, the car rumbled like a low growl. The gas pedal and steering were very stiff. The brakes were smooth even the first time applying them. On accerleration, I could feel the force of the engine pressing me more firmly into my seat. The low profile wheels gave a distinct and pleasing hum as they rolled at moderate speed. Turning the wheel in a moderate speed turn without braking I could feel how low the center of gravity was and how firmly the car stayed on the road. It was obvious that this car was MADE for long winding roads at any speed.
At a stop sign, I tested the acceleration a bit. The car was very responsive and powerful -- easily hitting way above speed limits in mere seconds. Passing other vehicles was a breeze -- the car was firm, speedy and tight. With the sport suspension, you do feel the road though. With the low profile wheels, the steering wheel also responds to slight changes in grade, which forces you to keep your hands firmly on the wheel.
All in all, I could definately tell it was a sport car over the luxury cars and passenger vehicles I am used to. The firmness of the steering and responsiveness to the road will take a minute or so to get used to -- but the quick tight turning radius and zippiness of it, will NOT! It's a great ride and just getting into it, you feel like a different driver - aggressive, confident and powerful.
